The Cobb's April prayer update Dear friends and prayer/support partners,
I'm writing this update fairly quickly for the reasons you can see below. Here are a couple items you can be in prayer about:
Classes in Switzerland
I'm right now in the midst of a special week of teaching in Switzerland at the Bible Institute I taught full-time at several years ago. This is a a week of courses on "Salvation in history and in our lives," a course I've been giving here every other year for the last several years. The time has been most encouraging up to now: the students have been reacting very positively to the teaching and there's been a lot of interaction. There are students from Switzerland, France, different countries from Africa... am I forgetting anyone? At any rate, it's always exciting to see students discover the depth and power of the message of Scripture in a new way, and what it means for their lives!
There are also several students who have been interacting very personally with the material, and I've had a number of one on one conversations with students trying to grapple with the implications of God's grace in their own lives, especially in connection with past personal experiences. Thank you for your prayers for these courses, 1) that the Lord would be pleased to speak through me in order to open up the transforming truth of Scripture and 2) that these students would come out of these courses with a firmer grasp of what the Biblical teaching on salvation in Christ means for their lives and future ministries! Please pray as well for Claire-Lise and the boys who are home alone this week, that this time of separation wouldn't be too difficult.
Gearing up for the end of the year
The month of May is the last month of courses for this school year at the Seminary in Aix (already!), so it will be a pretty hectic time, especially with grading papers, final exams, etc. Several students will be receiving their Bachelor of Divinity diploma in June, after the exams, so it's an important time for them, as well. Other students are actively looking for ministry opportunities in France and elsewhere. We would covet your prayers for renewed strength during this year-end period, that we would be able to do everything that's necessary. Please pray for the students as well, that these last two months of the school year would be a time of deepening their faith and their walk with God, and that the courses would be a real instrument in His hand for this.
Prayer for our personal situation
We have been going through some fairly trying times over the last couple months. Nothing earth-shattering, but several adverse circumstances that have been wearing on us. We will probably be sharing a couple of them in our upcoming prayer updates. Just one example: we left for a few days of vacation in Switzerland a couple weeks ago and had very a very major car problem, to such an extent that we had to leave the car in Switzerland and will probably now have to find a new one (and you call that vacation?!!). At one point, there were so many things happening that Claire-Lise said: "I'm beginning to understand what Job must have felt!" At this point, we would especially ask for your prayers, that the Lord would give us His peace and the strength to face these different situations in a way which is pleasing to Him.
More soon. For the moment, I have to get to my classes! We pray for many rich blessings on all of you. Thank you so much for your partnershing in the work of the gospel!
In His service,
Donald, Claire-Lise, Dimitri and Lucas Cobb
